German Expressionism – Part I

Posted: April 7, 2011 in Art I

Art I and II students have been working diligently with human proportions since the beginning of March, culminating in some charcoal self portraits finished yesterday.  Like all good artists, now that they know the rules, they can begin to break them.  We looked at German Expressionism and tied it in with the principle of emphasis, and leaning on the experiences we’ve had with figure drawing recently, the students are creating life-size creations in the German Expressionist style.  This is our first step – black paint and ‘gesture style’ drawings.

More to post as the work transforms over the coming days … also, I need to hang more paper!
